The concentration, organized by the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP) and supported by town councils nationwide, took place at 1:00 PM. It was attended by the mayor of Priego, Juan Ramón Valdivia, accompanied by members of the Governing team.
During the event, the mayor read a manifesto emphasizing the support of Spanish municipalities for Ceuta and its inhabitants, in response to the situation arising from the irregular entry of thousands of people through the border on July 30th and 31st.
The document calls for a firm state response, including the reinforcement of resources, ensuring border security, and extraordinary measures to cope with the impact on public services.
Furthermore, the manifesto highlights the need for coordinated action among administrations and the European Union, recognizing Ceuta as an external European border. It also includes a call for coexistence based on respect and rejects all forms of hatred and racism.
As a symbolic act, the flag of Ceuta was raised after the manifesto reading, reaffirming support for the city and its residents.
This gathering in Priego joins similar events convened simultaneously in various Spanish municipalities, aiming to convey a unified message of support for Ceuta during this challenging time.
