Mayor Fernando Priego, accompanied by Education Delegate Javier Fernández, presided over the ceremony that recognized the careers and contributions of teachers to the education of generations of students. The event took place this Thursday at the 'Isaac Albéniz' Elementary Music Conservatory.
During the event, the mayor highlighted the vocation and dedication of the teachers, stating that 'a teacher's impact is measured not only by the knowledge they impart but also by the people they help to shape.' The city's respect, affection, and gratitude for their work and commitment were conveyed.
The honored teachers included Antonia Contreras (IES ‘Aguilar y Eslava’), Valentín Cuevas (student residence of IES ‘Felipe Solís Villechenous’), Francisca Montes (CEIP ‘Andrés de Cervantes’), and Manuel Pérez (CEIP ‘Carmen de Burgos’). The careers of Javier Ariza (CEIP ‘Juan Valera’), José Briones (IES ‘Felipe Solís Villechenous’), and Lucía Gámez and Juan Francisco Garrido (CEIP ‘Nuestra Señora de la Sierra’), who could not attend due to personal reasons, were also remembered.
Following the tribute, the Education Inspector for the Territorial Delegation of Educational Development and Vocational Training in Córdoba, M. Carmen Alcántara, delivered the inaugural lecture titled ‘Education: Humanity’s Conquest’.
Mayor Priego advocated for education as a tool for equal opportunities and reaffirmed the council's commitment to improving educational facilities through the second 'Mejoramos tu Cole' Plan, funded with 200,000 euros. He also acknowledged the efforts of management teams, teaching staff, families, and inter-administrative collaboration, emphasizing the importance of Cabra's educational offerings, from early childhood to university level.
The ceremony featured musical performances by professors from the ‘Isaac Albéniz’ Conservatory, including Pablo Carpio (flute), Martín Caro (saxophone), and the guitar duo of Isabel Beato and Francisco Luis Molina, who performed the academic anthem ‘Gaudeamus igitur’.
