The VOX Chipiona Municipal Group regrets that Izquierda Unida (IU) and Unidos por Chipiona (UxCH) used their majority in the Plenary session to prevent the motion presented by VOX on reinforcing the defense and security of Ceuta and Melilla from being debated.
The initiative was presented with urgency due to recent events related to the border of Ceuta and statements from Morocco questioning Spanish sovereignty over Ceuta and Melilla.
The motion proposed institutional support for Spanish sovereignty over both cities, recognition of the work of our Armed Forces, Civil Guard, and National Police, as well as a request to the Government of Spain to reinforce the human, material, and operational resources for the defense and protection of our borders.
In the vote on urgency, IU and UxCH voted against, preventing the proposal from even reaching the debate stage. VOX Chipiona clarifies that the content of the motion was not voted on, but rather it was decided that the Plenary session could not debate it.
VOX also regrets that its spokesperson, Javier Díaz, was interrupted by the Mayor while he was defending the urgent reasons for the motion within the allocated time.
The VOX Chipiona Municipal Group considers that a matter of such importance deserved, at a minimum, to be publicly debated by the representatives of the residents, without requiring any group to share their position, but simply to allow the debate.
