A chlorine leak at the Leroy Merlin store in the Nevada Shopping mall, in the Granada municipality of Armilla, caused alarm this past Sunday among those present. Several buckets of chlorine overturned in the establishment, triggering a chemical reaction and the appearance of smoke. Fortunately, there was no risk to people, although an evacuation was carried out as a precaution.
The incident occurred around midday, apparently due to human error while workers were transporting the buckets on a pallet. The 112 Emergency Service received the alert around 2:00 PM. The evacuation of staff and customers was carried out as a precaution, with no injuries reported.
Personnel from the Granada Fire Department, the Local Police, and Civil Protection of Armilla responded to the scene. They were responsible for cordoning off the affected area and activating the safety protocol to manage the situation.
As a consequence of the event and the intervention efforts, the Granada Metro service was temporarily suspended between the Sierra Nevada and Armilla stops, in both directions. This interruption lasted for approximately four hours.
The Firefighters maintained control of the situation at all times, and no risk to the public was reported following the chemical reaction and the appearance of smoke.
