Six apartment blocks, comprising 371 homes, have been evacuated while municipal technicians assess potential structural damage. Those affected are being temporarily relocated to municipal facilities.
The day was marked by nine earthquakes with magnitudes above 3, four of them exceeding 4. The first vice-president of the Junta de Andalucía, Antonio Sanz, accompanied by the mayor of Granada, Marifrán Carazo, and the Minister of Housing and Youth, Rocío Díaz, detailed the situation.
“"It will be analyzed if there is structural damage and meanwhile, preventively, they have been evacuated."
Initial assessments suggest that the detected damage is not severe structurally, although the final technical analysis is awaited before residents can return. The seismic series is believed to be related to tremors that began on Saturday with an epicenter in Alhendín.
The earthquakes have not caused serious personal injuries, although 14 health assistance cases were recorded, mostly for anxiety and dizziness. A 13-year-old minor received treatment after being hit by a brick and was discharged from the hospital.
“"It is impossible to determine if the seismic series will continue or not. It is unpredictable; earthquakes cannot be foreseen, but we must work on informing citizens on how to act."
Antonio Sanz reiterated the impossibility of predicting earthquakes and highlighted the coordination between administrations and security forces.
