The infrastructure will connect the urban center with the La Estación neighborhood and the El Baldío and El Acebuchal developments, as well as facilitating access to the Los Cabezos peri-urban park. Preliminary work began in mid-May and is now entering its main phase.
The acting Minister of Development, Territorial Planning, and Housing, Rocío Díaz, highlighted the project as "justice for the municipality" and stated it will end "19 years of waiting." The bridge is expected to be operational by the end of the year.
The A-431 road, as it passes through Palma del Río, poses a barrier for pedestrians and cyclists. The new bridge will allow for a grade-separated crossing, enhancing road safety and the permeability of the route.
The bridge will be metallic, measuring 42.91 meters in length with a 2.90-meter usable width. It will feature accessible ramps, LED lighting, and drainage systems to ensure optimal use year-round.
During the visit, the minister and the mayor, Matilde Esteo, signed the deed for the transfer of several sections of regional roads to the City Council, including the A-453 bypass, a section of the A-440, and part of the old A-431 route. This transfer will facilitate the management and maintenance of these roads by the municipality.
