The town of Macael hosted one of the most anticipated events on the XCM Series Almería 2026 calendar. The VI Sierra de los Filabres Half Marathon gathered nearly 130 cyclists to compete in the fourth race of Almería's provincial BTT circuit, which combines Marathon and Half Marathon formats. The event, organized by the C.D. Amigos Sierra de los Filabres, took place under optimal weather conditions for sports.

The 43.5-kilometer course presented a significant challenge for participants. In the men's category, José David Latorre (from C.D. Vellsam Team) took the lead at kilometer 20, establishing an insurmountable advantage that secured his victory. Second place went to Juan José Meca (from C.C. Oxygenbike Team), who finished almost six minutes behind, while Samuel Martínez, the winner's teammate, completed the podium.

In the women's competition, Nerea García (from C.D. Vellsan Team) engaged in a fierce battle with María de los Ángeles de la Fuente (from C.C. Oxygenbike Team). The struggle for first place remained intense until the final stages, ultimately decided in favor of García. Third place went to Mare Salvador.

Among the category winners, Sergio Plaza stood out in Cadet, Luca Rovaris in Junior, and Jesús Berenguel in Sub23. In Elite, the winners were Samuel Martínez and Marta Checa. The Master categories also had their champions, with José David Latorre and María de los Ángeles de la Fuente in Master 30, Raúl Muñoz and Nerea García in Master 40, Silvestre López and María Ángeles García in Master 50, and José Miguel Martínez in Master 60.

The event was attended by municipal representatives from Macael, including the mayor and the councilors for Sports and Tourism. The next event in this competition will be the XI Huercalovers Half Marathon, scheduled for Sunday, April 26, in Huércal de Almería.
