Thermometers in Almería are relentless, registering extreme temperatures approaching 45 degrees in the hottest inland areas. The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has issued an orange alert for El Almanzora and Los Vélez, and a yellow alert for El Levante and El Campo de Tabernas-Nacimiento, due to the critical situation.
Experts warn that forecasts point to an even more suffocating situation next week, with maximum temperatures potentially exceeding those of Thursday, according to Juan Jesús Maestre from the Meteorological Observatory of El Almanzora.
Regarding temperatures recorded on June 16, the municipality of Macael led the surge with 44.5 ºC, closely followed by Cantoria with 44.4 ºC. Other municipalities like Fines and Olula del Río reached 43.9 ºC, while Purchena recorded 43.8 ºC and Turre 43.7 ºC. Even the provincial capital, Almería, registered 43.3 ºC at the El Toyo station.
The presence of dust (calima) and strong westerly winds (poniente), which dry out the atmosphere, prompt experts and authorities to urge maximum caution. It is recommended to avoid going outside during the central hours of the day and to closely monitor children and the elderly.
The highest maximum temperatures measured in Almería include: Cantoria (44.4 ºC), Fines (43.9 ºC), Olula del Río (43.9 ºC), Purchena (43.8 ºC), Turre (43.7 ºC), Almería (43.3 ºC), and Sorbas (43.3 ºC), among others.
