María Jesús Montero, currently the First Vice President of the Government, is undergoing a transitional period forced by the call for the Andalusian elections on May 17. This change has involved her relocation to Andalucía, although she herself has stressed that she has “never” left her homeland. Her goal is to compete for the Presidency of the Junta against Juanma Moreno, who aims to revalidate his absolute majority.
“"I don't plan to open the boxes until after the Andalusian elections."
This statement was made during a conversation in Seville with the writer and journalist Julio Muñoz, known on social media as 'El Rancio'. Montero explained that the reason for not having unpacked her belongings is the lack of time to “reorganize them,” dismissing any other speculation. The decision to retain her parliamentary seat until the election results are known, to avoid losing her position as a doctor at the Virgen del Rocío hospital in Seville, has fueled certain suspicions, along with polls that do not predict a favorable outcome for her.
At the meeting, held under the slogan 'The same accent' at the Cartuja Center in Seville, Montero addressed various topics. She stated that she accepted the candidacy because her party asked her to, and that politics “compensates” her because “reality challenges me.” Despite her daughters not wanting her to be a politician and complaints about the “dehumanized treatment” she receives, Montero showed spontaneity, justifying her gestures with the phrase: “I am a human person. I gesticulate because I express myself with my body. I touch. I am touchy.”
The candidate also referred to Juanma Moreno, whom she criticized for “absolute apathy” and the deterioration of healthcare. She recalled her time as Health counselor (2004-2013), when patients were seen “practically on the same day” or within “two or three days,” unlike the current situation. Montero declared that “the elections are a referendum on Andalusian healthcare,” as “our health is literally at stake.”
Finally, Montero shared her spiritual side, declaring herself a “believer in Jesus of Nazareth” and recalling her experience living in Triana with a Christian group during her Medicine studies. Her current move to Seville, driven by circumstances and an operation designed from La Moncloa, reflects her discipline in adhering to Pedro Sánchez's decisions, and the ballot boxes will determine the duration of this relocation.
