Antonio Maíllo, the Por Andalucía candidate for the Junta de Andalucía, has defended the left-wing unity agreement for the upcoming regional elections, sidestepping criticism from Pablo Iglesias and focusing on voter mobilization.

From Córdoba, Maíllo underscored the democratic nature of the process that led to the formation of a unified candidacy, calling it the «most significant event» of the Andalusian pre-campaign. According to the coalition leader, this pact responds to a «popular mandate for unity» and has generated «immense enthusiasm» among progressive sectors in the region.
The candidate chose not to comment on statements made by Pablo Iglesias, co-founder of Podemos, regarding the electoral agreement. Maíllo justified his stance by stating he had not directly heard the criticisms, preferring to focus his discourse on the campaign and the consolidation of the unitary project.

I prefer to make a much more positive and optimistic assessment of the confluence process, highlighting that it is the most important event that has occurred during the electoral pre-campaign.

Maíllo's primary objective is to increase the formation's representation in the Andalusian Parliament, where they currently hold five seats. To achieve this, he urged to «mobilize left-wing people to vote on May 17», confident that progressive unity will translate into greater electoral support.
During his appearance, the leader of Por Andalucía also criticized the management of the Partido Popular in the Junta de Andalucía, pointing out deficiencies in areas such as healthcare, education, and housing. Maíllo expressed his commitment to a «change of government in Andalucía» to address these issues.
