The event, which was completely sold out, allowed flamenco enthusiasts in Jaén to enjoy the mastery of Gregorio Moya, who recently won five awards at the International Festival of Cante de las Minas in La Unión, including the prestigious Lámpara Minera. Alongside him was the Granada-born guitarist Paco Cortés, recognized with the Special Jury Prize at the same competition for his accompaniment.
From the outset, Moya demonstrated his quality by performing malagueñas, with a clean and powerful voice that gained intensity throughout the evening. He continued with mineras, tarantos, and cartageneras, styles he masters with authority and which earned him recognition in La Unión. The highlight of the night came with the mining cantes, performed with great courage and emotion.
“"His schooling was forged from childhood in the local flamenco clubs, and that training is evident in how he measures time and delivers the cante."
Moya's connection to his Levantine roots, despite his Manchegan origin, was a notable aspect, explained by his early training in flamenco clubs. The recital concluded with soleares, tangos, and fandangos, showcasing the versatility of his vocal range.
For his part, Paco Cortés offered exceptional accompaniment, with a personal and brilliant touch that earned him ovations. His career alongside prominent flamenco figures was reflected in every detail of his performance, demonstrating perfect harmony with the singer. The evening was attended by the mayor of the municipality, councilors, and the president of the Provincial Federation of Flamenco Clubs.
