The Circada Festival, touring Seville and its province until June 21st, has showcased one of its gems: 'Der Lauf', a creation by Les Vélocimanes Associés in collaboration with Le Cirque du Bout du Monde. The piece, enjoyed last Saturday at the Teatro Central to a full house, emphasizes juggling and a unique relationship with objects, elevating them to stellar protagonists.
Performers Guy Waerenburgh and Morgan Cosquer, sporting zinc buckets on their heads reminiscent of Magritte figures, perform blindfolded in elegant suits. They are joined by Paul Rossier, dressed in a furry costume, adding a surreal and absurd touch to this show that encourages audience interaction, compelling them to 'advise' or even 'direct' the artists' movements.
The performance, presented as a reflection on life and death, represents the 'summum' of stage perfection. Despite the artists' apparent lack of vision and their manipulation of objects with boxing gloves, they achieve a complete connection with the audience. The zinc bucket becomes a central element, particularly in a fun Chinese plate juggling act where imperfection and breakage are part of the learning process.
A chess game with a suspended table, crystal glasses, and bricks, along with a shell game act, showcases the mastery of these jugglers. 'Der Lauf' blends experimentation, surreal Belgian humor, and profound humanity, leaving the audience smiling at the uncertainty and the displayed skill.
Critics compare the experience to the finest Belgian chocolate, offering complete enjoyment that liberates from the tyranny of absolute perfection. There may still be tickets available for upcoming shows, as the spirit of circus lives on in Seville until June 21st.
