Residents of Malaga have a new opportunity to access protected housing units for affordable rent. The development, comprising 202 homes in the Distrito Universidad, has begun its adjudication process following the publication of the guidelines in the Official Provincial Gazette (BOP).
This initiative is the result of a public-private collaboration involving the real estate investor Lagoom Living. The projected monthly rents for these homes, which will be distributed in blocks of ground floor plus five stories, will range from 446 to 512 euros. The apartments, with one or two bedrooms, will include a garage space and storage room. The registration period will open mid-month.
The registration period for these 202 VPO rental units will run from July 13th to the 31st. Applications will be managed through the Municipal Housing Institute (IMV), as in previous calls.
The distribution of the homes will be as follows: fifteen one-bedroom units, one one-bedroom unit adapted for individuals with dependency needs, 178 two-bedroom homes, and eight adapted two-bedroom homes.
The requirements to apply for one of these homes are standard: not owning another property, intending to use the allocated home as a primary residence, proof of at least one year of residency registration in Malaga, and being registered in the Municipal Registry of Protected Housing Demanders at the time of application. Those who participated in previous phases of Distrito Universidad and were not awarded a property may also apply.
Lagoom Living has highlighted that previous promotions, launched in March and June of this year, received over 14,000 applications, demonstrating the high demand and the need to continue promoting affordable housing solutions through public-private collaboration.
The new developments are designed with a modern and efficient residential model and include common areas such as a swimming pool, a children's play area, an outdoor gym, and coworking spaces. The final selection will be coordinated by the IMV, which will manage registrations, prepare lists, and oversee the selection process through a lottery after the objection periods.
