The audience for the match between Málaga CF and Almería, corresponding to the first leg of the promotion playoff to LaLiga, stood at 160,000 viewers, with a 1.4% share on pay-TV. These figures represent a drop of almost half compared to the previous tie against UD Las Palmas, where both matches exceeded 300,000 average viewers and a 3% audience share.
The broadcast of Málaga CF-Almería was the sixth most-watched on Sunday in the pay-TV segment. It surpassed the match between Ecuador and Ivory Coast (130,000 viewers), although it was overshadowed by World Cup matches such as Netherlands-Japan (569,000), Germany-Curacao (299,000 on pay-TV), and the Spanish Formula 1 Grand Prix (253,000).
The upcoming second leg, to be played at the UD Almería Stadium, will again coincide with important World Cup matches, making it difficult to improve the numbers. However, the 160,000 viewers recorded are higher than the average for many matches in a typical LaLiga matchday.
The Málaga City Council has approved extraordinary authorization for the installation of screens on the terraces of hospitality establishments for the broadcast of all playoff matches. This measure will allow the use of projectors and large screens until 11:00 PM, without external sound amplifiers, to avoid noise issues with neighbors.
