The political group Con Málaga has voiced its concern over the Junta de Andalucía's decision to cease publishing data on protected housing applicants, a move the party claims conceals a severe housing crisis in the region.
Juan Márquez, provincial deputy for Con Málaga, will present an initiative at the upcoming Special Accounts Information Commission of the Diputación de Málaga to address what he considers an alarming situation. According to Márquez, the Andalusian Government has restricted access to this information precisely when figures indicate a significant surge in housing demand.
“
"They have locked down information just as data shows the problem has escalated, and right now there are over 439,000 Andalusians waiting for housing; that is, when reality is inconvenient, Juanma Moreno does not act, but hides it."
Márquez has described this action as part of a pattern of inaction and non-compliance by the Junta. He pointed out that the Andalusian Government neither applies the state housing law, nor complies with the Andalusian law, nor activates the vacant housing registry, nor allocates deposit funds to public housing. Furthermore, he emphasized that Andalucía has unprecedented economic resources for housing but executes only a fraction of them.
“
"We are talking about hundreds of millions of euros unexecuted amidst a housing emergency. Every unexecuted euro is a house not built. That is not incapacity, it is a model."
The Con Málaga representative recalled that President Juanma Moreno promised the construction of 40,000 homes, a commitment that, according to Márquez, has not been fulfilled. This situation, he stated, represents a triple problem: non-compliance with the law, with electoral promises, and now the concealment of data.
In response to this issue, Con Málaga has demanded transparency, effective execution of available resources, and the implementation of bold public policies from the Junta de Andalucía. The party insists that the right to housing must be guaranteed by the public sector and not depend solely on the market.
Among the specific demands of the provincial group are the reestablishment of the publication of the Municipal Registry of Protected Housing Applicants, compliance with regional regulations, the development of the Registry of Unoccupied Homes, and the mobilization of vacant housing. They also request the full execution of state and European funds for housing, an increase in own funding, fulfillment of electoral commitments regarding protected housing, and the legal allocation of 70% (expandable to 90%) of deposit liquidations to public housing policies, aiming to mobilize 690 million euros for up to 35,000 homes.
