The Picasso Museum of Malaga will present from October 30th a pioneering exhibition contrasting the works of Edvard Munch and Pablo Picasso, exploring their artistic connections.

For the first time, the Picasso Museum of Malaga will propose a dialogue between the Norwegian artist Edvard Munch and the Malaga-born Pablo Picasso. The exhibition, opening on October 30th, aims to examine how both creators laid the groundwork for modern art through a unique fusion of experimentation and the expression of their obsessions and emotions.
The exhibition will feature over a hundred pieces, including paintings, prints, and drawings. It will highlight reciprocal influences and numerous thematic affinities, as well as shared concerns underlying the art of these two creators. The goal is to investigate how their radical creations have shaped our current perception of the world.
Without establishing a direct influence relationship, the exhibition will traverse shared themes and concerns, such as love, desire, illness, life, death, solitude, and existential anguish. The female figure will hold a central role, appearing as a complex and ambiguous presence, reflecting the psychological and emotional tensions that marked both artists' imaginations.
Another point of convergence will be modern life and its social settings, like cafes and bohemian environments, which served Munch and Picasso as spaces for experimentation to construct a new vision of the contemporary individual. Sections dedicated to the nude body will also allow for a reconsideration of the scope of their radical creation, which decisively redefined modern art.

"The exhibition's narrative thread recounts an imaginary encounter between the two artists and explores impossible dialogues between two disparate personalities who never met."

"They belonged to different generations and countries, had divergent artistic strategies and sensibilities, and also opposite ways of exploring painting, but they shared a similar obsession with the deep mysteries of life, as well as common interests throughout their prolific careers."
