The communication secretary of the PSOE-A, Fernando López Gil, acknowledged on Tuesday the socialists' "concern" over the news concerning former President José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero in relation to the Plus Ultra investigation. "We wish and need it not to be true," stated López Gil, who admitted the party feels "broken" by the situation, while advocating for the presumption of innocence and expressing hope that the facts will be clarified without determining any responsibility.
At a press conference, López Gil also criticized the "lack of haste" by acting president Juanma Moreno to initiate government talks following the March 17th results, which did not grant an absolute majority to the PP. "Andalusia is in a hurry" and needs a government "that pushes forward and has seriousness," he stressed, calling on the Andalusian president to clarify his plans and not "manage his comfort" while thousands of Andalusians await solutions in healthcare and housing.
“"We wish and need it not to be true."
Regarding the absence of the secretary general of the PSOE-A, María Jesús Montero, from public events after the elections, López Gil explained that she continues to work internally at the party headquarters in Seville and that she will collect her elected deputy's credentials "as soon as she can." He assured that she will have a "public appearance" in the coming days, once the pending credentials from the provinces of Jaén and Granada are formalized.
The socialist leader also referred to the possibility of an early election, stating that as long as Pedro Sánchez has the capacity to govern, "it is good" that he continues. He added that some mayors prefer elections separate from the municipal ones in 2027 to prevent the debate from being "mixed."
“"It seems he is looking forward to summer and will start acting in September."
López Gil concluded by criticizing that the "Andalusian path" has fallen into "deep depression" and that President Juanma Moreno seems "more concerned with managing his comfort" and "looking forward to summer" before acting, leaving the "power in his hands" to Santiago Abascal.
