Municipal representative María Espejo emphasized that any intervention on the emblematic Correos building must respond to genuine social demand, have the support of involved sectors, and be clearly communicated to citizens. "Strategic decisions should be built on agreement, not confrontation. Jaén does not need another entrenched debate, but a useful, transparent project assumed by the city. It is not a time to impose projects, but to build shared solutions," she stated.
The municipal group believes that consolidating dispersed public services could enhance administrative efficiency and citizen access. However, they warn that these benefits will only materialize if the project has sufficient backing.
“"If the Correos project serves to improve public services, revitalize the center, and utilize available funding, it must be studied seriously. But if there is insufficient social, political, and commercial consensus, it should not be imposed."
JM+ opens the possibility for the building to become a modern operational headquarters, grouping dispersed municipal areas and bringing administration closer to citizens, provided there is consensus. The group distinguishes between preserving the institutional seat and optimizing internal organization, leveraging a strategic building whose adaptation could be funded by European funds.
Therefore, they propose presenting technical, economic, heritage, and legal reports, detailing costs, financing, areas to be relocated, and initiating dialogue with merchants, collectives, and other political groups before making final decisions.
The group also recalled the precedent of other unfinished municipal projects in Jaén, such as the water park or the tram system, warning that the Correos project must not repeat past mistakes.
