The University of Jaén (UJA) successfully hosted this prestigious sporting event, which brought together over 100 elite athletes from 28 universities across the country. The competition, spanning two intense days, solidified the Jaén institution's reputation as a stronghold of national university sports.
The first day was entirely dedicated to the team modalities. In the women's category, UCAM triumphed over the Autonomous University of Madrid in the final. This success was mirrored in the men's category, where UCAM also secured the gold medal, with the silver going to the University of Granada.
The individual tournaments, which concluded the championship, saw Ángela Rodríguez (UCAM) crowned Spanish champion in the women's category, defeating Sofía Couce (University of Seville) 3-1. Bronze medals were awarded to Lucía Vidal (University of Granada) and Nerea Aizpurua (Basque Country).
In the men's competition, Marc Gutiérrez (UCAM), a member of the Spanish national team, confirmed his favoritism by winning 3-0 against Hugo Herrero (UNED), thus securing the individual title. Martín Reche (UCAM) and Miguel Chamorro (UNED) finished as third-place getters.
This CEU Table Tennis event is the second of three major university sports events organized by the UJA this year. Following the cross-country championship in March, the university is now preparing for the Spanish University Athletics Championship, scheduled for May 9 and 10 at the La Salobreja facilities.
The organization of the event received support from the Municipal Sports Board of Jaén City Council, the Provincial Council of Jaén, and the Junta de Andalucía, underscoring the institutional commitment to promoting high-performance sports in the province.
