A security operation, triggered by the detection of several intentional fires in waste collection bins across different streets of the city, led to the police intervention. Officers responded to the locations alerted by emergency calls from residents and by night patrols who initially used their standard-issue fire extinguishers.
Thanks to surveillance efforts and eyewitness accounts reporting suspects tampering with cardboard under cars and dumpsters, local officers managed to locate the group.
The operation concluded at 06:00 AM when a patrol intercepted the group. Four individuals surrendered without resistance, but two fled on foot. A second patrol car deployed in the vicinity successfully apprehended the fugitives.
The six arrested males, aged between 16 and 19, have been handed over to judicial authorities. The police investigation remains open to assess the damages, which included severe effects on adjacent building facades and several parked private vehicles.
Forensic Science teams are conducting ocular inspections and expert reports at the affected sites to evaluate damage to motorcycles and cars parked near the fire sources. The remains of the dumpsters will stay in place until judicial experts complete their analysis of evidence and urban soil traces.
