The urban intervention is based on the winning proposal of the ideas competition, titled Entre la ría y el riel, which incorporates strategic guidelines from other finalists such as Cinturón Ecológico and Origen Huelva. Technical development is being carried out in coordination with municipal departments of Mobility and Infrastructure, alongside entities like Aguas de Huelva and Emtusa.
The project covers three main areas: from the Río Tinto Pier to the surroundings of the Nuevo Mercado del Carmen, the section of Avenida de Italia up to Plaza del Punto, and the route along Avenida Miss Whitney to the Matadero neighborhood. The goal is to transform the old railway layout into a multifunctional corridor that promotes pedestrian mobility and territorial cohesion.
The design includes green infrastructure, rest areas, and a single-level platform that will restrict vehicle traffic to residents, public services, and emergency vehicles. The execution of the works is subject to the completion of the new Ensanche Sur road network, which will serve to divert current traffic while the urban transformation works are carried out.
