Recently, a ham carver from San Juan del Puerto set a new record by carving ham for 72 hours, 20 minutes, and 7 seconds. This feat was not only a remarkable achievement but also had a charitable purpose, with all proceeds donated to various local welfare organizations.
Ham has been a recurring element in Huelva's accomplishments. In 2016, the province earned its first recognition for the world's most valuable ham, a 100% Iberian acorn-fed specimen from Manchado de Jabugo pigs, valued at 4,100 euros per piece.
A year later, in 2017, the provincial capital united to create the world's largest ham sandwich, reaching 760 meters in length. This achievement required a thousand loaves of bread and 42 local hams, drawing numerous residents and tourists.
In 2020, another 100% Iberian acorn-fed ham brought Huelva the record for the world's most expensive ham, with a selling price of 1,429,000 yen, equivalent to approximately 11,881 euros. This product was crafted by the Sierra Mayor Jabugo company in Corteconcepción.
This very year, 2024, the province once again stood out with the World's Largest Ham Plate, covering 136 tables with 640.71 kilograms of ham. One hundred professional carvers participated in this initiative, with profits directed to soup kitchens and Huelva-based associations.
Beyond ham, Huelva has also been recognized for other achievements. Since 1998, Jabugo has held the record for the world's largest stew, prepared in a pot two meters high and two meters in diameter, using chickpeas and local Iberian meats.
In 2013, La Palma del Condado entered the Guinness Book with the world's largest mosaic made from 72,000 coins, dedicated to the Virgen del Valle. Finally, in 2010, the capital broke the record for the largest sculpture made from recycled materials, a giant construction helmet on the Carmen campus of the University of Huelva, created to promote workplace safety.
