This demand was presented at the II Conference for the Improvement of Personalized Care in Breast Cancer Patients, an event that brings together healthcare managers, clinicians, hospital pharmacists, and patients in the city. The common goal is to advance towards a more personalized and efficient care model.
The conference, organized by the Territorial Grouping of the Spanish Society of Managers in Andalusia, with the collaboration of Novartis and the endorsement of the Andalusian Society of Hospital Pharmacy (SAFH) and the Andalusian Society of Medical Oncology (SAOM), highlighted as a main challenge not only the availability of therapeutic innovation but also ensuring its homogeneous application, measuring its real impact, and adapting it to the individual needs of each patient.
This approach seeks a more proactive healthcare system, based on coordination among professionals, efficient use of resources, and the integration of patients' experiences. A spokesperson for the Andalusian Society of Hospital Pharmacy and head of section at a university hospital, emphasized the need for rigorous evidence evaluation, appropriate therapeutic positioning, and close pharmacotherapeutic monitoring.
From a clinical perspective, an oncologist from a Sevillian hospital and coordinator of the breast cancer group of the Andalusian Society of Medical Oncology (SAOM), pointed out that the main current challenge is more organizational than therapeutic.
“"We have effective treatments and we know how to identify patients at higher risk, but we need to ensure that this knowledge is applied homogeneously in all centers."
One of the most relevant aspects of the conference has been the active incorporation of the patient perspective. One patient highlighted the existing shortcomings in personalized care, calling for greater listening and emotional support.
“"Much is said about the type of tumor, but less about how each woman experiences the treatment in her daily life: fatigue, side effects, or how it affects her real routine."
