The Granada 2026 Pride program, themed ‘Without community there is no liberation’, was presented by the Municipal LGBTIQA+ Council of Granada, the City Council, the University of Granada, the Provincial Council, and local associations. Councilor for Education, Employment, and Equality, Encarnación González, emphasized the municipal commitment to equality and LGBTIQA+ rights.
The main event will be the Granada 2026 Pride Awards Gala, held on Wednesday, June 24, at the Espacio Escénico de Maracena. During the gala, awards will be presented to individuals and entities recognized for their work in favor of equality. Honorees include doctor Amets Suess Schwend (Pride Granada Award for activism in research), actress Carla Antonelli (Pride Granada Award ‘Kim Pérez’), writer David Uclés (Queer Culture Award), Barbarella and Felicity York (GranaDrag Queer Award), and the cultural space La Tertulia (Historic LGBTIQA+ Place).
Councilor Encarnación González highlighted the gala's importance in recognizing those who work for a fairer society that is more respectful of diversity. Additionally, the Families for Diversity Meeting will take place, a space for coexistence and mutual support with intergenerational workshops.
The central day of Pride will be on Friday, June 26, starting with the reading of the institutional manifesto at the Granada City Council and the Provincial Council. Subsequently, the demonstration will take place, departing at 7:00 PM from Plaza del Triunfo to the esplanade of the Palace of Congresses for the day's final events.
The official poster for this edition was created by illustrator Rosa Olea. The University of Granada will also contribute with activities such as the course ‘Sexual and Gender Identities at the University’ for PTGAS staff, awareness campaigns, and film and documentary screenings. A nine-meter rainbow flag will be installed on the facade of the Hospital Real on June 26.
The program is complemented by cultural, sporting, and community proposals throughout June, extending to municipalities in the province such as Guadix, Atarfe, Purullena, Las Gabias, and Armilla, aiming to spread the message of respect and diversity to all territories.
