Residents of Tabernas felt a new tremor early this Thursday morning, July 23rd. According to the National Geographic Institute (IGN), the earthquake occurred at 6:17 AM and registered a magnitude of 1.6 degrees on the Richter scale. The epicenter was located within the municipality of Tabernas, at a depth of 4 kilometers.
This was not the only seismic event in the area in recent hours. In the early morning, another earthquake of 1.7 degrees magnitude occurred in the northern part of the Alboran Sea, off the coast of Adra. The epicenter of this tremor was at a depth of 17 kilometers.
The province of Almería has witnessed significant seismic activity in recent months. In February, a 4.2 magnitude earthquake in Tabernas marked the beginning of a period with up to 30 earthquakes registered in a single month, although activity has considerably decreased since then.
