The Councilor for Urban Planning and mayoral candidate, Pepe Mellado, attended the reception of the regenerated water supply works from the Chipiona Wastewater Treatment Plant (EDAR). This project will provide approximately 2.3 million cubic meters annually of high-quality water to the Northwest Coast Irrigators' Community at a lower cost than surrounding water sources.
The completion of the tertiary treatment phase allows for a new use of water previously discharged into the sea, reusing it for agriculture, a key economic sector for the region. Izquierda Unida highlighted that administrative agility with the Regional Government of Andalusia, thanks to the Urban Planning Councilor's determination and the maintenance of water concessions, has shortened timelines that would otherwise have taken several years.
The political party emphasized that the project was financed with municipal funds saved by the City Council. "In addition to financing the work with a surplus of investments maintained in the municipal coffers thanks to Izquierda Unida, we have set certain conditions for the municipal water service regarding keeping costs below those of other municipalities in the area," stated Mellado.
Mellado also highlighted the improved dialogue between the water treatment service concessionaire and the Irrigators' Community, which benefits the agricultural sector of Chipiona and the entire region. "It is essential that both entities have direct and cordial contact so that the benefit is mutual and contributes to the economic prosperity of our town and its surroundings," he concluded.
