During the summer period, the Motril council is implementing a significant roadmap for the improvement and maintenance of educational centers. These actions are being carried out while schools are empty to undertake more comprehensive works. The priority list has been defined after various meetings with the center's management to address the specific needs of each one.
The mayor of Motril, Luisa García Chamorro, recalled that these investments are financed with municipal surplus funds. "It was necessary to make more significant investments when the children are on vacation during the summer," she stated, highlighting that the total investment exceeds one million euros for both completed and planned actions.
One of the first completed actions has been the renovation of the bathrooms at the CEIP Mariana Pineda, a long-standing demand from the educational community. This work is in addition to others already carried out by the maintenance department, such as the improvement of waterproofing at the CEIP Príncipe Felipe.
In addition to the bathroom renovation at CEIP Mariana Pineda, similar works have been awarded for the bathrooms at CEIP Los Álamos and CEIP Pablo Ruiz Picasso, which will begin soon. Other planned interventions include the electrical renovation of the dining hall at CEIP Los Álamos and the repair of playgrounds in centers such as CEIP Cardenal Belluga, CDP Ave María Esparraguera, and CEIP Virgen de la Cabeza, as well as painting and gutter repair at CEIP San Antonio.
The mayor also announced the replacement of all children's playgrounds within the school facilities, with an investment of nearly half a million euros. The second priority, once the bathroom works are completed, will be the updating of all electrical systems.
María Ángeles Sotillo, director of CEIP Mariana Pineda, emphasized the necessity of these works, which will be available for students at the start of the new academic year. She thanked the City Council for their work and reiterated the center's willingness to collaborate in maintaining the facilities in the condition they deserve.
