PSOE aims to reverse electoral history in Almuñécar in upcoming Andalusian elections

Socialists have only achieved one victory in regional elections this century in the coastal town, which has been dominated by the PP.

Weeks before the regional elections, the PSOE in Almuñécar faces the challenge of overcoming the dominance of the Partido Popular, which has been the most voted force in most calls this century.

The citizens of Almuñécar, like the rest of Andalusians, are preparing to go to the polls and elect their representatives in the Andalusian Parliament. In this electoral contest, the Partido Popular aims to revalidate the majority obtained in the previous call, a situation that has been repeated in the coastal town in almost all regional elections this century.
Historically, the PSOE has only managed to win once in Almuñécar in the regional elections of the 21st century, specifically in 2004. Since then, the socialists have remained in the shadow of the PP, which has consolidated its position as the dominant political force in the locality.
In the 2022 elections, the Partido Popular was the preferred option for voters in Almuñécar, obtaining 4,381 votes, representing 44.7% of the total. The PSOE and Vox were practically tied, with 17.7% and 17.06% respectively, each accumulating just over 1,600 votes. Other formations such as Andaluces Levantaos and Por Andalucía received significantly less support.
The situation was slightly more favorable for the PSOE in 2018, when they approached 2,000 votes (20.5%), although again behind the PP (23.7%). On that occasion, Ciudadanos also experienced a notable rise, gathering 17.7% of the votes. These results contrast with the municipal elections of 2019, where Convergencia Andaluza was the most voted force, highlighting the differences in electoral behavior at local and regional levels.
