The Manilva City Council has taken another step in the comprehensive remodeling project of the Plaza Costa del Sol, situated in the Fishermen's Quarter of Sabinillas. The mayor, Mario Jiménez, along with council members Marcos Ruiz, Juan Carlos Morejón, Eva Galindo, and Pilar Zúñiga, met with local residents, representatives from Hidralia, and the technical team responsible for the project's design.
The main objective of the meeting was to gather residents' needs and proposals for the future design of the public space. Marcos Ruiz, the Councilor for Infrastructure and Works, explained that the City Council prioritized citizen participation before the start of the work, and some suggestions will be included in the final project.
The intervention will begin with the renovation of the sanitation and supply networks, as well as reinforcing the rainwater drainage system, all of which are deteriorated installations that have caused problems and whose replacement is a priority.
The project will also transform the plaza's appearance, giving it a more modern and functional look. Existing parking spaces will be maintained, pedestrian areas will be increased, and the vegetation layout will be improved.
The City Council anticipates that the works will commence in November and last approximately six months. Subsequently, a second phase focusing on the adjacent pedestrian alleys will be undertaken.
Through this initiative, the Consistory aims to resolve existing deficiencies in underground infrastructure and revitalize one of Sabinillas's key public spaces, adapting it to current needs.
