The Estepona club's project began with difficulties, finding itself in relegation spots. However, a series of changes in the sports structure, including the arrival of a new head for the sports department and a new coach, have transformed the team's dynamic.
“"Since leaving Málaga, these have been very tough and difficult months. It was an important decision because leaving the club of your life to embark on a new path. It wasn't easy to believe what the best option for you was. I took on the challenge when I spoke with the sports director to get fully involved. I took over the club with 7 points, and now we are close to achieving a salvation that was almost impossible."
The team has managed to close a 14-point gap in the standings, a feat that seemed unattainable a few months ago. With three matches remaining in the competition, survival is within reach, a result of an offensive playing style and great confidence in the squad.
The arrival of the sports director marked a turning point, opting for a young profile for the bench. This decision, considered risky at the time, has paid off, creating a solid connection between the sports management and the coaching staff.
“"The sports director could have opted for a coach with more experience, someone who would focus on defending results and playing defensively, but he took a chance on me. We didn't have much interaction, but he liked me. He has a very clear idea because he comes from professional football, just like me. He wants to professionalize the club, provide tools and facilities for the footballer. When someone of that level trusts a young and hungry coaching staff, things like this happen."
The coach has shaped his playing philosophy towards an offensive style, prioritizing scoring over ultra-defensive tactics. This approach, which breaks with more conservative clichés, has been key to the team's recovery and the players' enjoyment on the field.
