The new sports season in Torremolinos will begin on September 1st, offering a total of 7,410 places distributed across 37 sports modalities and 412 classes. This figure represents a 10% increase in offerings compared to the previous season.
The official presentation took place in front of the Virgen del Carmen I and II swimming pool complex, led by the mayor, Margarita del Cid, accompanied by the Councilor for Sports, Ramón Alcaide. The mayor highlighted the extensive offerings and the current high occupancy rate, exceeding 94.54% with over 7,000 registrations, demonstrating user loyalty and the quality of the activities.
Del Cid emphasized the local government's commitment to maintaining high quality standards and improving sports infrastructure. She mentioned future additions such as parquet flooring for the San Francisco de Asís pavilion, the construction of a Pump Track circuit next to the Javier Imbroda pavilion, and the implementation of orientation circuits and calisthenics areas. Recent improvements at the Virgen del Carmen I and II pools were also noted, including changes to the footbath stones and LED lighting replacements.
For his part, the Councilor for Sports, Ramón Alcaide, valued the work of the 21 local clubs that use the facilities, mobilizing approximately 2,800 additional users and serving as a key component of the municipal sports model. These clubs ensure that the facilities are active throughout the week.
Among the 37 modalities offered starting in September are adapted aquatic activities, aquafitness, athletics, basketball, indoor cycling, functional training, football, gymnastics for seniors and pregnant women, judo, karate, swimming in various categories, paddle tennis, Pilates, skating, tennis, and urban dance.
As a new addition, starting in October, sports initiation to pickleball will be included at the Javier Imbroda pavilion. Free-use activities also show high occupancy, with 2,392 available places for 'sport at your own pace', gym, and free swimming.
