The operation, carried out by the Robbery Group of the Fuengirola Police Station, began after a complaint from a representative of the Council's Operational Services. This individual reported the detection of electrical wiring thefts at different points in the town, including Tartesios street (next to Sohail Castle), Virgen del Rocío street, and Poniente Park.
According to municipal estimates, the thefts occurred after public manholes were broken into, from which 2,840 meters of cables were extracted. The value of the stolen material amounts to approximately 21,000 euros, according to the Provincial Police Station of Málaga. In addition to the impact on infrastructure, these actions generated social alarm due to power supply interruptions in homes and businesses.
Police investigations focused on tracking copper sales at scrap metal establishments in the area. This work led to the identification of a man who had sold material identical to that stolen at a scrap yard in Mijas. Officers proceeded with his arrest, attributing to him at least four thefts that have already been brought to the attention of the judicial authority.
“"The Provincial Police Station has urged citizens to contact 091 if they observe suspicious manipulations on public roads that could be related to the theft of electrical copper wiring by intruders engaged in this type of criminal activity."
