The Government delegate in Andalusia, Pedro Fernández, has confirmed that the initiative to reinforce the electricity supply in areas such as Los Pedroches and Guadiato will be included in the actions to be carried out on the state electrical transport network for the 2026/2030 cycle. This confirmation follows a process that has involved various stages and discussions.
Fernández met with the president of Red Eléctrica Española (REE), Beatriz Corredor, to analyze the electrical planning proposal from the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO). This proposal, with a 2030 timeframe, foresees a total investment of 13.590 million euros, of which approximately 115 million will be specifically allocated to the 400 kV electrical axis in the aforementioned Cordoban regions.
According to both parties, this plan will enhance Andalusia's attractiveness for business project implementation, anticipating increased electricity demand in the autonomous community. The proposal, currently in the processing phase, includes expanding the capacity of Andalusian grids to accommodate large hydrogen projects, new railway lines, port electrification, and residential growth.
Pedro Fernández highlighted the initiative's importance for territorial integration, projecting new network extensions and interconnections that will reach rural areas, thereby creating socioeconomic development opportunities linked to the energy transition. Other structural actions in Andalusia were also mentioned, such as the grid development in Jaén and connections with Extremadura.
It is worth noting that the initial exclusion of this project from the draft planning generated a joint response from mayors, the Provincial Council, the Regional Government of Andalusia, and trade unions. The current proposal avoids the Guadalmellato Special Conservation Area (ZEC), a protected natural space, by routing around the boundaries of Villaharta and Obejo, as well as the south of Villanueva de Córdoba, to overcome environmental complexities.
