Córdoba's festive calendar kicks off strongly in April, establishing itself as an attractive month for visitors seeking to enjoy local culture with fewer crowds. Although the Fiesta de la Virgen de Belén, known as Las Habas de las Ermitas, had its tasting canceled due to rain forecasts, the mass in honor of the Virgin proceeded as planned.
The Romería de Santo Domingo, scheduled for April 19, commemorates the miracle of San Álvaro de Córdoba. Hundreds of people will participate in a parade of floats, carriages, and horses starting from avenida de la República Argentina and covering ten kilometers to the Santuario de Scala Coeli, where a day of celebration will take place.
More and more, May begins in Córdoba in April. And while the month of flowers has earned the capital worldwide fame for its intense cultural and recreational activity, there is no shortage of plans in the preceding weeks either.
The Montilla-Moriles Wine Tasting is presented as the major gastronomic event, taking place from April 22 to 26 on avenida del Alcázar. This event, considered the symbolic start of the May Festival, will offer tastings of local wines and specialties from city bars and restaurants.
Closing the month, the Batalla de las Flores (Battle of the Flowers) will be held on April 26, where thousands of carnations will be thrown from decorated floats by Córdoba's peñas along Paseo de la Victoria and avenida República Argentina. This tradition, dating back to 1915, is the result of months of artisanal work by the Federación de Peñas.
Finally, the Cruces de Mayo (May Crosses) will mark the end of April in Córdoba, filling the city with color and music from April 29 to May 3. Nearly fifty floral crosses will be installed in the historic center, modern neighborhoods, and enclosed venues, offering a festive atmosphere with sevillanas, gastronomy, and rebujito.
