Adolfo Molina, delegate of the Junta de Andalucía government in Córdoba, has called for calmness and rationality in the discussion surrounding the implementation of biogas plants in the province. These projects have sparked significant social opposition in municipalities such as Cabra and, more recently, Baena.
Molina advised against "getting carried away by rumors" and assured that the regional administration would act "in accordance with current legislation." He explained that the Junta's role is "limited" to approving environmental permits, adding, "If they meet the requirements, they will have authorization. In Baena, the mayor, María Jesús Serrano, has reiterated her opposition to the potential installation of a biomethane treatment and production plant. She stated that the City Council will use "all legal and judicial tools at its disposal to prevent the establishment of an industry that could cause inconvenience to the population."
The mayor of Baena announced the convocation of a spokespersons' meeting to propose a joint institutional declaration. Among the proposed measures is the "unanimous rejection of any biomethane plant that could cause bad odors or health impacts." Furthermore, a request will be made to the Junta de Andalucía for the precautionary suspension of the environmental processing of these projects and the approval of a special plan to regulate renewable energy installations on rural land.
