The race, organized by the Department of Family, Inclusion, and Equality of the Almería City Council and the Neurodem Association, saw a notable increase in participation compared to the previous edition, gathering 550 runners compared to 400 in 2025. The event aims to convey the message of preventing neurological diseases into daily life.
Participants had the option to choose from distances of 2.5, 5, and 9 kilometers, with the start and finish line at Parque del Andarax. The routes included both the park's interior and sections along the Ribera del Río Andarax, highlighting the natural environment for sports practice.
Antonio Casimiro, councilor for Active City, Urban Mobility, and Sport, along with María Teresa García, president of Neurodem, flagged off the race. Casimiro emphasized the importance of "uniting sport, prevention, and awareness" to bring the message of brain health to all audiences, noting that the increase in registrations shows a growing understanding of physical activity as a tool for well-being.
María Teresa García thanked the participants and stressed the goal of "taking information out of associations and bringing it to the streets," emphasizing that brain care should be a daily habit and that prevention and early detection are fundamental.
The Brain Month program will continue with various activities, including the 'Let's Talk About Alzheimer's' session on Monday at Espacio Alma, a healthy trail organized by the Brada Association on October 11th, and the 'Check Your Brain' tents on October 21st and 28th at Paseo de Almería and Mirador de la Rambla, respectively.
The month will conclude on October 29th, coinciding with World Stroke Day, with the Brain Injury Conference organized at Espacio Alma. The campaign will also be present on 28 municipal information kiosks (MUPIs) to extend the prevention message throughout the city.
