The Guadalquivir Hydrographic Confederation (CHG) has concluded seven river restoration actions in the provinces of Córdoba and Jaén, with an investment of over €2.6 million.

The Guadalquivir Hydrographic Confederation (CHG), an autonomous body under the Ministry for Ecological Transition, has finalized restoration and ecological improvement works in various River Natural Reserves in the provinces of Córdoba and Jaén. These actions, funded by the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR) and NextGenerationEU funds, represent an investment exceeding 2.6 million euros.
The works were carried out through seven major interventions along key river sections of the Guadalquivir and its tributaries. The primary objective was to enhance riparian vegetation, restore hydromorphological functionality, and strengthen the conservation of the Public Hydraulic Domain.
Activities included improving native vegetation, removing waste, applying bioengineering techniques, and conditioning trails. Obstacles were also demolished and made permeable to restore ecological continuity and improve natural adaptation to floods. These interventions across a dozen river sections have helped clean riverbeds, clear vegetation blockages, and correct elements affecting water flow, thereby enhancing ecological quality and water security.
All information gathered during the operations has been integrated into the CHG's digital systems. This will enable monitoring of the riverbeds' evolution post-intervention and assessment of how the river sections adapt to the implemented improvements, facilitating future planning and more effective management of the Public Hydraulic Domain.
The completion of these works marks a significant step forward in the conservation of river ecosystems within the Guadalquivir basin. It consolidates sustainable management of the Public Hydraulic Domain, safeguards natural values, and reinforces the resilience of riverbeds against climate change.
