The Provincial Deputation and the University of Almería (UAL) have strengthened their alliance for the cultural, economic, and social development of the Almería province. The President of the Deputation, José Antonio García Alcaina, and the Rector of the UAL, José Joaquín Céspedes, have renewed the agreement that both institutions have maintained since 2007, enabling the realization of various academic, social, artistic, and cultural projects in different parts of the Almerian geography.
Through this agreement, the Deputation of Almería will allocate 151,000 euros to the materialization of 16 initiatives promoted by the UAL. These initiatives cover areas of study linked to the territory, such as agriculture or history, as well as other fields like artificial intelligence, psychology, and the promotion of entrepreneurship, talent, and employment.
Among the highlighted projects are programs of great social impact and deep roots in the province, such as the Summer Courses, which this year celebrate their XXVII edition, and the University for Seniors, which brings the academic world closer to individuals over 55 years of age.

José Antonio García Alcaina emphasized that this collaboration strengthens the union between both institutions in defense of talent and knowledge transfer. "This agreement is irrefutable proof that when institutions work as a team, the entire province advances," he stated, highlighting the commitment to training and talent retention so that the knowledge generated at the UAL benefits all of society.
Since the beginning of this collaboration in 2007, the provincial institution has invested 2.5 million euros in UAL projects. García Alcaina reiterated the Deputation's commitment to the University, considering it an engine for wealth and job creation for the province.
For his part, the Rector of the UAL, José J. Céspedes, noted that the collaboration aligns with the University's strategic objectives, including reinforcing its connection with the entire province. "We are the university for the entire province of Almería, not just the capital," he remarked.
Céspedes highlighted the UAL's role as a driver of economic and social transformation in the territory through higher education, research, knowledge transfer, and cultural promotion. "The Almería of today would possibly not be understood without its university," he indicated, adding that contributing to the progress of its towns and cities is a priority.
The Rector emphasized the importance of maintaining a stable collaboration framework with the Provincial Deputation to develop knowledge-related actions that will ultimately benefit Almerian society.
The programs to be carried out under this framework agreement include: University for Seniors, Summer Courses, European Researchers' Night, Natural History Pavilion, UAL-Connect (Ideas Fair, Employment Fair, Aula Fair), Promotion of Entrepreneurship in own programs, XI Edition of the IndalMat Contest, III Cybersecurity Conference, Scholarships for former wards and vulnerable individuals, University Micro-credentials Offer – Provincial Deputation of Almería, "Lights in the Desert" Program, XIX Congress of Social Sciences Methodology, Artificial Intelligence Conference, and Young Talent in the Province.
