The competition, part of the Spring Series, will take place throughout Saturday and Sunday. Following an initial phase that saw six races completed, the prevailing theme is the close parity among teams, promising a weekend of high-stakes action in the waters off La Línea.
John Bassadone's 'Península', sailing under the burgee of the Royal Gibraltar Yacht Club and CN Bevelle, aims to maintain its leading position. Results from the first event highlighted minimal differences between crews, with several premature starts underscoring the competitive pressure from the outset of each race.
Key contenders include 'Team Kouko', skippered by Pedro Butrón and Dani Cuevas (RC Marítimo de Marbella); 'Fiestas Team', led by María Fiestas with José María Guerrero at the helm (RC Mediterráneo); and 'Aviador', with Gabriel Medem and Pablo Villar in command (RC Marítimo de Sotogrande). Other notable participants are 'GVS PAS', 'Alcaidesa Marina', 'Nexum Capital', 'Tacuarita', 'Aquaholic', and 'Pretty Sailing'.
The organizers plan to hold multiple races, weather permitting. Consistency will be a critical factor in a circuit where partial victories are distributed among various teams, and any misstep can significantly alter the overall standings.
As part of the program, crews will travel to Gibraltar after Saturday's racing for a lunch hosted by the Royal Gibraltar Yacht Club, an initiative designed to strengthen ties between clubs in the Campo de Gibraltar and The Rock. The event is jointly organized by the Club Náutico Bevelle and the Real Club Náutico de La Línea de la Concepción, with support from the Royal Gibraltar Yacht Club and sponsorship from Alcaidesa Marina.
