The City Council of La Línea de la Concepción continues with the works for the refurbishment of the Fuerte de Santa Bárbara. This intervention aims to consolidate the remains of local defensive architecture and enhance its cultural and tourist value. The delegate councilor for Infrastructure, Yolanda Fernández Borastero, has inspected the project's progress on-site.
During the tour of the historic site, the municipal official confirmed the completion of the foundations for the future musealization building, which will house an entrance and introduction center for the monumental space. Fernández Borastero also noted that the carpentry work is nearly finished, including the installation of the access bridge connecting the different areas of the enclave. The councilor highlighted that the pace of execution for the works is adequate.
The project, with a budget of 818,935 euros, is being executed by the company Guamar S.A. Funding is shared between the City Council and the Institute for Just Transition, through an aid program for municipalities affected by the closure of energy facilities, such as the Los Barrios Thermal Power Plant.
The comprehensive intervention plan includes, in addition to the construction of the exhibition space, the perimeter enclosure of the entire monumental complex, the cleaning of the defensive moat, and the provision of an equipped walkway. These improvements will allow for safe public visits, ensuring the preservation of La Línea's heritage and its integration into the municipality's cultural offerings.
