The Cádiz coastline has secured just over one and a half million euros from the available European funds. Vejer, San Roque, Los Barrios, and Chipiona are the four municipalities that have had the majority of their applications approved for providing accessibility and safety furniture, improving tourist infrastructure, cleaning and energy efficiency, as well as for the sustainability of the natural environment of their beaches.
These four municipalities are among the fifteen Andalusian locations with the highest scores, surpassing the benchmark set for the 52 towns applying for these European funds from the Strategic Plan for Common Agricultural Policy (Pepac 2023-2027), managed by the Regional Government of Andalusia.
Another six coastal enclaves in the province of Cádiz have failed to meet the benchmark, being excluded from the allocation. Notably, Chiclana narrowly missed out on half a million euros for its coastline's equipment by half a point. Puerto Real, Tarifa, Barbate, Conil, and Rota are the other excluded municipalities. The total amount held in reserve for potential fund acquisition reaches two and a half million euros.
The grants, whose provisional resolution is pending appeals, will become final as the high season begins. Corporations will have to equip the beaches without this subsidy, which will arrive later, and will not be able to start the projects before the concession resolution, which will require a non-commencement verification report.
Vejer is the municipality in Cádiz receiving the most funds, with 499,726 euros, 100% of what was requested. These funds will be used for equipment, restoration of tourist infrastructure, replacement of coastal plant species, furniture for safety and accessibility, and improvement of cleaning, hygiene, and energy efficiency resources. The mayor of the town, Antonio González, highlighted the high score obtained, ranking third in Andalusia, and the importance of these actions for the conservation and environmental improvement of El Palmar.
San Roque will receive 470,905 euros, a lower amount than the 554,006 requested. Los Barrios will obtain 136,452 euros out of the 160,532 submitted.
Chipiona will receive 424,413 euros, out of the 499,309 requested, for projects aimed at reducing water flow in tourist infrastructure, and for accessibility, cleaning, and coastal safety equipment.
In addition to the four municipalities in Cádiz, other Andalusian locations have met the benchmark, including Albuñol, Guachos, Vera, Lujar, Carchuna-Calahonda, Mojácar, Adra, Garrucha, Sorvilán, Salobreña, and Torrenueva.
