The Royal Spanish Football Federation confirmed this Friday that Algeciras Club de Fútbol had met the deadlines and requirements for its registration in the Primera Federación for the 2026/27 campaign. This procedure, which was expected to be routine, turned into a race against time for several clubs, including the red-and-white team, which pushed until the extra deadline granted by the federation.
The club's sporting director, Jordi Figueras, had previously expressed confidence that the club had secured its registration, a confirmation that now comes from the federal body. Algeciras was not the only one to rush the deadlines; FC Cartagena and Real Avilés Industrial also had to wait until the last moment, while Club Deportivo Teruel received approval the previous Tuesday.
With the bureaucratic commitments resolved, the Algeciras fanbase can now focus on the preseason and preparation matches. The team will debut before their home crowd this Saturday in the traditional Trofeo Virgen de la Palma at the Nuevo Mirador.
The club, managed by Fútbol Coalition, closed the previous fiscal year by settling a debt with FIFA, an essential step for normalcy in sports management. After overcoming claims from the Spanish Footballers' Association (AFE), registration in the competition is the final completed procedure. Now, the entity can focus its attention on the transfer market and the start of the league under the management of Adrián Colunga.
