The intervention by the Cádiz Provincial Fire Consortium was crucial in saving an equine that, for unknown reasons, collapsed on a public road. On the afternoon of Friday, April 3, a coordinated and precise operation involving a crane allowed the animal to receive immediate assistance and be transported for recovery.
The incident mobilized six firefighters and three vehicles from the local station to San Agustín street, in the center of Jerez, around 5:00 PM. Upon arrival, they found a white horse lying on the pavement, unable to stand up after collapsing. The priority was to secure the area to protect both the animal and passersby, allowing a veterinarian to conduct an initial assessment on site.
For the rescue, the firefighting team calmed the horse using specialized handling techniques before proceeding with its elevation. They used a crane and high-resistance slings to lift the animal, minimizing the risk of additional injuries. This technique is essential in critical situations, where managing the animal's stress is crucial for the success of the operation in a public thoroughfare.
The rapid response of the emergency services prevented the Friday incident from escalating to more serious consequences.
Once the horse was upright, its immediate transfer was arranged using a specialized vehicle to the municipal center in Jerez for safekeeping. There, experts will conduct a thorough evaluation to determine the causes of the collapse and ensure its long-term well-being. Such interventions are not uncommon for the fire department, which has previously handled similar rescues.
The operation lasted approximately one hour, observed by residents and passersby. Witnesses highlighted the professionalism of the firefighters in handling a large animal in a street with difficult access. The Fire Consortium concluded its service once the road was clear and the horse was under professional care.
