The Professional Health Colleges of the province of Cádiz, encompassing Doctors, Nursing, Veterinarians, Pharmacists, and Dentists, have expressed their "deep concern" regarding the critical health, assistance, and humanitarian situation in the autonomous city of Ceuta.
Cádiz representatives warn that the healthcare pressure has reached unsustainable levels, affecting already structurally limited resources. They denounce that over 10,000 people have arrived in the city without sanitary control and are living in unsanitary conditions, posing a "serious epidemiological risk" and public health threat to both newcomers and the local population.
They recall the political authorities' obligation to ensure dignified and safe medical care, warning that delaying resource deployment could jeopardize collective safety. They emphasize the need for anticipation and preventive actions to avoid the emergence and transmission of infectious diseases due to overcrowding and precariousness.
Health professionals from Cádiz extend their solidarity to their Ceuta colleagues, who are overwhelmed. They criticize the "institutional improvisation" and "abandonment" by the competent administrations but value the commitment of the local medical staff.
Given the severity of the situation, they urgently demand the activation of a Health Emergency Plan for Ceuta. This plan should include a drastic reinforcement of personnel and immediate provision of equipment to mitigate epidemiological risks. They highlight the historical and geographical ties between both territories to demand an end to critical deficiencies.
