The A-480 road, with an average daily traffic of nearly 19,000 vehicles, suffers from significant undulations that have led to speed restrictions of 60 and 80 km/h in several sections. These deformations are caused by expansive clays in the subsoil, a type of ground that swells and contracts with moisture, affecting the road's surface, particularly on the right carriageway towards Jerez.
A previous geotechnical study had already identified critical points between kilometers 10 and 18, ranging from the junction with the A-471 near Sanlúcar to the vicinity of the access roundabout for the rural districts of Añina and Las Tablas. In addition to the surveys already conducted, five more boreholes have been added to obtain a more precise diagnosis and determine the appropriate solution for each section.
These new boreholes will allow for the extraction of samples and the analysis of the subsoil's physical and resistant properties. The results of these studies will be crucial for designing safer foundations, calculating the necessary pavement thickness, and preventing future undulations and landslides.
The Minister of Public Works and Mobility, Mario Muñoz-Atanet, accompanied by the territorial delegate of Public Works in Cádiz, Carmen Sánchez, visited the work sites. The intervention will be carried out through a contract that includes project drafting and construction execution, once the preliminary project is completed with the latest additional surveys.
Following the completion of these studies and the project drafting, a tender will be issued for the reconstruction of the highway, aiming to ensure the safety and traffic flow on this important communication route.
