Museums and cultural sites across Andalusia are joining the celebration of the International Day for Monuments and Sites, held on April 18, with a series of activities designed for all ages. The primary goal is to highlight the importance of preserving the region's vast and diverse cultural heritage, as well as to bring the valuable collections closer to the public.
In the province of Cadiz, the commemorations will focus on two key locations. The Baelo Claudia Archaeological Ensemble will host a family escape room titled Tempus redax rerum, a playful proposal for archaeology enthusiasts. Simultaneously, the Museum of Cadiz will offer a guided tour of the exhibition Reflejos. Picasso x Barceló, which explores the ceramic work of both artists and its dialogue with the center's archaeological collection.
These initiatives are also part of the celebration of World Art Day, established by UNESCO in 2019 and held every April 15, coinciding with the birth of Leonardo da Vinci. Various Andalusian museums and the Andalusian Institute of Historical Heritage (IAPH) have organized events to underscore the relevance of art in society and to foster creativity and cultural diversity.
This year's theme for the International Day for Monuments and Sites is 'Living Heritage and Emergency Response'. This focus aims to highlight the efforts dedicated to the conservation of 'living heritage', defined by UNESCO as the legacy passed down through generations, encompassing both tangible and intangible heritage. The commemoration also emphasizes the response of administrations to emergency situations, natural disasters, and conflicts.
