Federico García Lorca Avenue has become the center of traditional craftsmanship with the inauguration of the XXXIV 'Alfaralmería' Pottery Fair, which will take place until August 29th. The mayor of Almería highlighted the importance of keeping this ancient craft alive. Following the ribbon-cutting, a parade filled the Rambla with color.
This year, 32 stalls have been set up along the avenue, combining workshops from Almería with offerings from various parts of Spain and Europe. Almería's representation includes seven artisan workshops, featuring firms such as Alfarería Juan Simón de Sorbas, Mi Casita Quemador de Carboneras, and masters from the Níjar region.
One of the local artisans, Antonio Flores, explained his work with utilitarian ceramics fired at high temperatures and the development of his own glazes. He announced an exhibition at the Almería Museum in mid-September focused on historical forms and native materials.
The fair also features an international representation from Portugal and France. Four Portuguese workshops present traditional Coimbra ceramics, hand-painted. French artisan François exhibits realistic sculptures of animals.
In addition to direct sales, 'Alfaralmería' offers free family workshops led by specialist Antonia Moya Úbeda. The 90-minute sessions, with limited capacity, focus on techniques such as modeling and tile decoration.
