The detainees, both with prior records, face charges of drug trafficking, assault on an authority figure, and traffic safety offenses. The chase, described as «extremely serious,» unfolded along the A-4 highway, through Puerto Real's urban area, and into its marshland zones.
Among the injured officers, one sustained a fractured right arm and is awaiting surgery. The other National Police officers suffered multiple contusions and various other injuries.
The incident began when officers from the Judicial Police Brigade, conducting a specific operation against drug dealing, spotted a vehicle driving at high speed and performing reckless maneuvers. This car had been previously identified in a February investigation as a target linked to drug distribution in the area.
When officers attempted to stop the vehicle using sirens and lights, the driver ignored their commands. At a roundabout, he made a 180-degree turn to ram a police car head-on before initiating a high-speed escape. During the pursuit, he drove against traffic, endangering other drivers.
The chase concluded in a marshland area in the Valvanera district of Puerto Real, where the passenger threw a pink plastic bag containing 200 grams of cocaine out the window. Ultimately, the suspects' car became stuck on an adjacent lane due to poor terrain conditions, allowing for their interception.
The occupants attempted to flee on foot and offered active and violent resistance, which, combined with the earlier collision, led to the injuries of the four officers. Inside the vehicle, traces of cocaine were found scattered, suggesting an attempt to dispose of a larger quantity of drugs. It was also confirmed that the driver's license was invalid due to loss of points.
The detainees were brought before the Court of First Instance and Instruction number two of Puerto Real, which ordered their provisional imprisonment.
