The inaugural event took place at the entrance of the Fairgrounds, where the eldest residents, D.ª Catalina Puerto Soler (born February 1, 1931) and D. Pedro García Jurado (born December 20, 1929), were responsible for officially lighting up this year's fair before numerous attendees.
The ceremony was attended by the mayor of Villa del Río, D. Jesús Morales Molina, members of the Municipal Corporation, and institutional representatives, who shared the moment with the gathered public.
Prior to the lighting, the town's streets hosted the traditional Parade of Giants and Big-Heads. The procession departed from the Plaza de la Constitución, accompanied by the Musical Group Nuestro Padre Jesús Nazareno «La Madrugá», parading through the municipality to reach the fairgrounds.
This parade, which featured Matías Prats Cañete and «Paillo, el rey del bocadillo», is one of the most cherished traditions to kick off the fair and was enjoyed by both children and adults.
With the lights now on, Villa del Río opens days dedicated to community, music, joy, and tradition in honor of its Patron Saint, Our Lady of the Star.
