The controllers at the Salvamento Marítimo center in Almería received the incident report and dispatched the rescue vessel Salvamar Spica. Upon reaching the disabled vessel's position, the Spica crew proceeded to tow the motorboat and transfer its seven occupants to the port facilities in Garrucha.
This event has prompted Salvamento Marítimo to remind the public about the most common causes of maritime emergencies, including engine failures, lack of fuel, or insufficient maintenance. The organization warns that most of these mechanical failures are preventable.
As part of its nautical safety recommendations, the entity advises conducting a pre-departure inspection. This check should include verifying oil and fuel levels, the condition of hoses, and proper circulation of cooling saltwater. Furthermore, it urges the use of quality fuel and not to run the tank dry to prevent sediment from clogging filters, suggesting the use of extra filters and carrying spare parts on board. It also recommends monitoring for abnormal or dense smoke from the exhaust, which indicates engine overheating.
